Ming Dynasty Fine Cast Copper Statue of Ananda[Specifications] Height 18cm Width 7.2cm Weight 700g[Details]In the Mahavira Hall of Han Buddhist temples, there is often a statue of a young monk on the left side of the Sakyamuni Buddha statue. He is Ananda, one of the ten great disciples of Sakyamuni Buddha. Ananda followed the Buddha to become a monk. When the Buddha was 55 years old, Ananda was chosen as a permanent attendant. Because he served the Buddha attentively and remembered every word of the Buddha, he was called “the first in hearing”.This statue is in the shape of a Cihe monk, wearing a cross-collared monk’s robe, a cassock on the right shoulder, and a patchwork robe on the right shoulder. He wears a Juesura inside, with natural and smooth folds and exquisitely carved twined flower patterns. He puts his hands together in front of his chest and stands upright on an upturned lotus seat. The whole statue is exquisitely carved, with a serene and calm demeanor, vivid and lifelike modeling, excellent color, appropriate balance, and exquisite workmanship. It can be regarded as a masterpiece of Han Buddhist statues in the Ming Dynasty.
